      I agree with explanation that you have given because monitoring performance is of little use unless there is something you can do about it. Since Windows 7 provides a variety of tools that you can use to configure the operating system so that it performs better, or to troubleshoot any issues that may a result do to a lack of performance.

    7.Explain how Resource Monitor works.
    Resource Monitor displays real-time feeds about critical systems of your pc. Its a free utility that is bundled with windows 7 and vista. Its a very useful utility or troubleshooting and monitoring your computer's health. The overview section provides a self updating line graph. you can also check PC processes and help with the pc health.

      Also, the Resource Monitor has four other sections: CPU, Disk, Network and Memory.

      To open the resource monitor you click on the resource monitor button on the task manager's performance tab.

      i remember the first time i discovered this, i can never get my resource monitor to go below 3 gigs of memory usage, thank god i have 8 gigs of ram

    Performance Monitor

    Performance Monitor is a visualization tool that administrators use to observe how programs that are running on their computers can disturb a computer’s performance on a continuous, real-time basis. It is used to gather information from configurations, performance counters and event trace data to make a full examination of a computer’s actions.

    To open Performance Monitor, click Start>System and Security>Administrative Tools>Performance Monitor. Open a blank MMC console and add the Performance Monitor snap-in. Click Start and type Perfmon.msc in the search box. Open the Computer Management console and expand the Performance Monitor node. Expand the Monitoring Tools node and select Performance Monitor. To add a counter to the display, click the Add button in the toolbar to display the Add Counter dialog box. You must choose a computer name, performance object, performance counter and an instance for the counter, and then click Add to include it to the Added Counters list. With Performance Monitor, you can create an effective display, data collector sets, and a system diagnostics report.


    Reliability Monitor

    Reliability Monitor is an advanced tool that spontaneously tracks and diagnoses events that can have a negative outcome on system stability and uses them to determine a stability index (a number from 0 to 10 in terms of least to most stability respectively that is calculated using data from software installs and uninstalls, application failures, hardware failures, Windows failures, miscellaneous failures and system clock changes). Reliability Monitor collects data using a hidden scheduled task called Reliability Access Component Agent (RAC Agent). RAC Agent gathers information from the event logs every hour and updates the Reliability Monitor display every 24 hours.

    To access Reliability Monitor, click Start>Control Panel>System and Security>Action Center. Enlarge the Maintenance section by clicking the down arrow button. Then, click the View Reliability History link.

      Reliability Monitor is a tool that automatically tracks events that can have a negative effect on system stability and uses them to calculate a stability index.

      Yes, the performance monitor is extremely important because most of the time it will tell you who is using the most or least usage of the CPU.

      I like your message Temmy. You pretty much covered both subjects of Performance Monitor and Reliability Monitor. One thing about Reliability Monitor is that the RAC Agent gathers info. from software (un)installs, application failures, Windows failures, miscellaneous failures and system clock changes to form the stability index; which I already knew you were getting into to talk about in your message.

      Using reliability monitor, it helps you spot certain patterns and shut down malicious software before it can do any damage. it’s not always a virus or malware that can make your system unreliable. Sometimes it might just be an outdated service that keeps crashing in the background and you may not even realize it. Good job

      It’s great that Windows 7 has a reliability monitor because by the examining the resources utilized by specific applications and processes over time can help you determine ways to improve the performance of a computer.

    A hotfix update is an update designed to be one or more files that address and fix specific problems or issues with an operating system.

    Service packs are a cumulative set of updates that consist of all the updates released for a particular operating system version. These updates usually go all the way back to the original release of any particular version of a operating system.
